Finding Forgiveness In Jesus Christ

Writer: Kevin WilliamsKevin Williams

HALLELUJAH!!!! PLEASE PRAY for this post-abortive girl to find and abide in the forgiveness and healing of Jesus Christ. She looks like she is well on her way. Praise God! Responses like this give me as much joy as when they choose Life. Perhaps more of a sense of “Mission accomplished” JESUS CHRIST’S Mission Accomplished!!! “To destroy the works of the devil” who would heap shame, guilt and self-loathing on them til their dying day and “To seek and to save that which was lost” Praise God!!! Pray she is able to forgive herself and be reconciled forever in Christ.

To:You Subject: Re: This is what brought me healing. Date: 2/6/18 10:05PM Message: My tears have not stopped since I read your email.  How did you know the guilt was eating me alive? Thank you for your message and for the prayers and verses. I will check out the documentary and the other resources you mentioned.

I was a believer when I got my abortion. Why did I do that?! Who was that person that allowed a life to be taken?! A precious life was lost because of my sin and me playing God. I cannot fathom Gods forgiveness & I don’t blame him if he punished me because I knew better. It’s not like I was unsaved when I got one. I knew better and that to me is unbelievable and unforgivable.

Thank you for sharing what brought you healing  I AM beyond grateful.

I sense you are a truly amazing and loving person and You have a very very beautiful heart. You don’t have to carry that weight of guilt. Here is what brought me back when I despaired.

There are beautiful and profound principles in Carmen’s words below. I hope they help you as they did me.

Carmen Pate’s devotional

Pray for post-abortive women who cannot forgive themselves; may they understand that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Scripture: Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sin is covered. Blessed is the one to whom the Lord shall not impute sin. — Romans 4:7-8 Reflection: In the passage above, the Apostle Paul making a point about justification by faith, refers back to David’s words in Psalm 32:1-2. In spite of the enormity of David’s sin—adultery with Bathsheba and his murder of her husband—and the utter absence of any personal merit, David in his brokenness, understood the imputed righteousness of God. David’s response was not continued guilt over his sins, but praise for his freedom from guilt, and God’s power to live life differently. Once your relationship with God has been restored, your guilt has served its purpose and should no longer be given place in your life. This is true regardless of the particular sin, including the sin of abortion. As a post-abortive woman, I too struggled with this issue until I realized that punishing and hating myself after receiving God’s forgiveness was an insult to God. It was as though I were minimizing Christ’s work on the cross as insufficient to cover my sin. I was denying Him the opportunity to bring glory to His name for the healing and restoration He wanted to do in my life. I was giving victory to the enemy who having lost the battle for my soul, was bent on destroying my testimony as I accepted the continual guilt he heaped on my mind. It is my joy to continually sing of God’s grace rather than give the devil a foothold in my life. Don’t waste God’s mercy! Accept His forgiveness and forgive yourself as testimony of His amazing grace. Prayer: Our Most Gracious Heavenly Father, thank you for your amazing grace that saved a wretch like me. I come against the enemy of my soul who would have me feel cast down and dejected. Lord, keep your children from falling prey to the accusations of the father of lies. Turn our mourning into dancing and may we bring praise to You as we give testimony of Your healing and restoration in our lives. For by Your grace we are saved, Amen.

Sweetheart, I produced a documentary and one of the post-abortive girls we interviewed has an extended interview that I would like you to watch. Ashley Sigrest. I think she is the fourth girl to appear in the film and she closes out the film with a beautiful and powerful plea about God’s mercy, forgiveness and healing. Ashley opened my eyes when she shared her heart in her interview. My website is conceivedinrape.com Ashley said something that I’ve shared many times to girls who didn’t want to accept God’s forgiveness because they felt they were unworthy. Ashley’s words opened their eyes and hearts to accepting God’s healing and restoration He longed to give them. The Prophet Joel said that God can “Restore the years that the Locust has eaten.” Ashley’s realization was that God was able, even through her child’s death to restore her into fellowship with her Creator and to transform her and many others to into witnesses for the kingdom of God. That He could use, even her tragic decision to abort, to show others back to God. She said: “Now when I help other women to heal after their abortions, it honors my son. Now when I fight for other children not to be aborted he did not die in vain. When I’ve shared Ashley’s words with other post-abortive girls who felt unworthy to receive God’s forgiveness I’ve seen a light in their eyes and a change come over their expression and they say “I WILL accept God’s forgiveness and healing and by doing so it is going to honor my child.”

I also know another woman who had an abortion as a teenager. She said she wasn’t coerced or anything. She just thought a baby would interfere with her future. She was told it was just a blob of cells. After her abortion, she started having recurring nightmares of a baby crying. (This went on for decades) She would wake up in tears because she knew the baby wouldn’t be there when she woke up. In her own words “It wouldn’t be there because I killed it.” Then she went to a healing retreat and had an experience of God’s love and healing much like Ashley’s. Then she had another dream. In this dream, a bright light was shining in her bedroom from the hallway. A little girl ran out of the light. Grabbing my friend’s shirt she said laughing “It’s ok Mommy, I’m with Jesus now, you can let me go. You are forgiven.” She woke up in tears again but this time it was tears of joy and she never had the nightmare again.

A really good resource for post-abortion healing is Rachel’s Vineyard Weekend Retreats. They put them on all over the US in practically every fairly large city. They have provided healing for countless women.

If you would like to talk to someone, I would feel and truly be blessed if I could help you. I was involved in this choice over 40 years ago. Plus I have a number of friends who are post-abortive and would love to talk to you and see your heart on the path to healing. I’m praying for you Sweetheart.

Here is something that is very beautiful that was part of a sermon I heard recently. I was so moved by it that I sat down and wrote it out.

"Before we go any further in discussing the extremely sensitive issue of abortion I want to say a word to any woman who has had an abortion. God’s mercy is bigger than your sin …and your pain. In 10 years of Priesthood I’ve often been blessed to be the one who gets to welcome back a woman to the merciful embrace of the Father. To take her hand and put it back into the hand of God the Father after she has admitted to and repented of her abortion in the sacrament of confession. A priest in such a situation has the privilege of assuring the woman that she has never for a single moment lost the love of God the Father, nor her dignity as a beloved daughter of that same God no matter WHAT she did. And so I say to these women today, you don’t have to hide from God one moment longer. I know it is exhausting to pretend your pain is not real. That your loss is not immense, and that your choice wasn’t devastating either. But when you experience God’s love…When you experience God’s mercy, even after an abortion you will really come to know and experience that God’s love in forgiving our most serious sin is even greater than His love in creating us. Your Father has been waiting for you for a very long time Mother and it’s time to come home."

I have sent similar messages to this to many many girls after their abortions on this site. Most responses are “I was crying when I read this over and over…” Or “You will never know how much these words saved me today…” There has been a couple times when a year or so later the same girl would be back scheduling another abortion and it made me realize that the enemy of our soul, after abortion will do one of two things that you need to be aware of and recognize. Satan will typically move in for the kill of the soul of a post-abortive mother. He will start heaping shame and guilt and self-loathing on her mind until she has to numb it with self-destructive behavior, drugs, alcohol, promiscuity, and other things with the certainty that God could or would NEVER forgive or accept someone who murdered her own baby and be deceived and tormented until her dying day. Either that or “That its no big deal, that God is so forgiving that a simple prayer for forgiveness will cover it….til next time. I don’t think Satan cares which tactic he employs, just so long as it accomplishes the deception and the Mother’s soul is lost. Sweetheart, PLEASE accept God’s Forgiveness, but from time to time, gaze at a Crucifix and Him hanging on it, and reflect on the price He paid to be able to forgive this sin. THAT is how much God Loves you. THAT is how much God wants you for His Own.
